When your wedding day is over and done with, it is all too easy to just forget about things and carry on living your everyday life. Wedding dresses are just one of those things that end up being neglected, shoved to the back of the cupboard and forgotten about.
Here at Teokath we think that this is a real shame, when you have invested money into your wedding dress, you should do your best to make sure that it is looked after and preserved as well as possible.
But where do you start? To help you, we have put together some of our top tips on how to look after your wedding dress after the big day.
THINK ABOUT DRY CLEANING
It is very rare that your wedding dress is going to be washing machine friendly, which means that if you want to give it a clean after your wedding day, then you are going to need to consider dry cleaning. There are not only some dry cleaners that deal with wedding dresses as well as other dry cleaning, but there are also some that specialise in wedding dresses, which means that you can be sure that your gown is in the best hands possible.
ORGANISE IT QUICKLY
Despite your best efforts, there is still a chance that your wedding dress is going to have ended up with a stain or two on your big day. If you are worried about these stains becoming more permanent, then you need to keep in mind that time is of the essence, the longer you leave it, the more that the stain will sink in and the harder it is to remove.
DON’T COVER IN PLASTIC
When you get something dry cleaned you often find that it is handed back to you in a plastic cover. This is good for a short period of time, but if you are planning on storing your dress, then you are going to need to make sure that you use a cotton cover as this will keep your dress safe rather than posing a risk of making it smell like plastic.
STORE RIGHT
Once your dress is clean and the stains are removed, you are going to need to make sure that you find the best place to store your dress afterwards. A great idea is a wedding dress box as this isn’t only easy to pack away, but it will also keep your dress in the best condition possible. It is also a good idea to make sure that you store other accessories separately to further protect your dress.
Of course, you don’t always have to store your dress never to see the light of a day. You can choose to sell it, you can also use it to make a gown or something else for you to keep. It really does depend on the space that you have, as well as what you want to do with your dress in the long term.
